Nadia's Theme

Official music video for Nadia's Theme by Avi Paul Weinstein from the album Stumbler. My father has a vast collection of VHS tapes of children's programming from the late 70's and all through the 80's—some really great stuff that I watched over and over again. This footage is from the TV movie The Pinballs which I found in the collection. I don't remember ever watching it, but this particular sequence of a kid running away from home struck me for some reason. The movie is part of the ABC afterschool special series and stars Kristy McNichol. I was surprised to come across it once again when ABC released those specials as a DVD series. The song contains pieces of the original "Nadia's Theme" (the theme music to the American television soap opera The Young and the Restless). The song also makes use of "I Need A Friend" from The Cowsills, which goes along with the adolescent/television theme. The Cowsills made many television appearances, most notably Playboy After Dark. There is then the "Live for Life (Vivre Pour Vivre)" theme by Francis Lai who has had a very long and successful career scoring for film and television. The song is from the movie of the same name featuring Yves Montand who plays Robert Colomb, a famous TV newscaster. Oh yeah, and of course the very recognizable "When the Levee Breaks" beat. I was young and naive—I didn't know it had already been sampled a million times! I miss living in that small world.
